When I first started creating jewellery, I would come up with an idea, and just make it. I didn't care if it was made in 18 carat gold, I would just jump straight on in. It's a lot like my personality. If I am excited, it's hard to hold me back.
Then I started serious study with master jewellers and saw they engaged a calmer approach, resulting in jewellery of exceptional quality. So I thought I should probably develop a habit of letting ideas sit with me for a while. Rather than producing a "hotch-potch" of themes, I found my work was reflecting my earliest hobby... music. I have a folder at home with nearly every musical achievement I ever had in it. Now I'm a bit of a horder, but this is quite strange for me. My photo album is only a few pages thick, yet my music folder is jammed with clippings from the local newspaper, a music certificate from Year 3, and other bits and pieces.I won't go through my achievements, cos then you really will think I'm blowing my horn, but the first job I had when I left school was as a professional musician with the Latin band Musico Groupo Caribe (I'm the blonde with the trumpet in the photo). Although I spend more time at my jewellery bench than playing my Trumpet or Double Bass, music is still well and truly pumping through my veins. I can't keep still when there is a song or music I love. Do you get those "butterflies" in your chest, where you feel you have to dance or sing or you'll explode? Me too. And so that is why I have decided to create the Glam Rock Emporium, and believe it is the best venue for my jewellery. |

I started playing Trumpet in the School band when I was 8 years old. In the beginning, I wasn't that keen on practicing, but when my Mum suggested lessons, I gave them a go. Wow! Hearing my teacher play something more exciting then "Little Brown Jug" (our band's most popular piece in our very limited repetoir) really made me sit up and take notice. THEN I was passionate.
